Synopsis: A working-class African-American father tries to raise his family in the 1950s, while coming to terms with the events of his life.
My Review: Wow. Now this is a movie. This is what I hope will be an Award-winning movie. Everything was top notch – the acting, directing, script, costumes, … everything. Of course, it helps when you are working with such high-quality material as supplied by August Wilson. Denzel Washington did this role on Broadway with Viola Davis in 2010. Both of these actors are some of my favorites working today. I prefer Denzel when playing the bad guy, eg: TRAINING DAY. No one does quiet desperation like Viola Davis. I especially enjoyed the performance of Mykelti Williamson as the mentally-challenged Gabriel, brother to Denzel. He also did this type of role in FORREST GUMP. The movie starts off a little “talky”, but you get used to it after 5-10 minutes. This movie started as a stage play. This is a Master Class in Acting by 2 actors at the top of their game. I am so glad I got to see this on the Big Screen.

Thank you Mr Paramount Pictures, Mr Bron Studios, and Mr AMC Theatres for giving me a special screening for this movie so I could make an intelligent and informed opinion when casting my vote on the 23rd Annual SAG Awards.
